Regional championships begin this weekend for 2018 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship

The American Motorcyclist Association championship event, organized and promoted by MX Sports, returns to the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., July 29-Aug. 1. The ranch has hosted the event since 1982.

"It''s hard to believe that the first step of qualifying for the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is now complete," said AMA Motocross Manager Ricky Rickords. "We are excited to see America''s top amateur racers continue their road to Loretta''s and compete at one of the 13 regional championships that begin this weekend. Riders who finish in a qualifying position at the regional championships will then shift their focus on securing the heavily sought after AMA National No. 1 plate at Loretta Lynn''s Ranch in August."

The Horn Rapids Motorsports Complex in Richland, Wash., and Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, Tenn., will host the first AMA Regional Qualifiers May 26 and 27.

AMA Regional Championships will be held each weekend until June 24. A total of 13 regional qualifying events will take place in eight regions around the country.

"It''s go time for Loretta Lynn hopefuls. As the area qualifiers finish up, the stakes are much higher at the regional championships," said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. "Only 17 percent of regional participants will make it to America''s most prestigious amateur motocross event."
