Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasakis Cianciarulo Finishes Runner-Up At Washougal
Washougal, Wash. (July 28, 2019) – Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo left it all on the track at Washougal MX Park during Round 9 of the Pro Motocross Championship, ultimately coming across the finish with second overall (3-2). He was a fixture at the front of the field and put on a show in Moto 2 as he nearly grabbed the lead on the final lap. His second place still has him 28 points ahead of second in the championship standings. Teammate Garrett Marchanks had to retire early from Moto 1 and came from behind in Moto 2 to finish 22nd overall with a 40-19.
With the season winding down, Cianciarulo was aware to the fact that he has a point lead to protect. He is also a racer who wants to win, which led him to put on one of the best charges of the season in Moto 2.
Finishing third in Moto 1 after coming through from a fourth-place start and overcoming a tip over, Cianciarulo wanted to get back to the top. He moved into second quickly in Moto 2 and stalked the leader the whole race. At times he was close enough to pass, but the opportunity wasn’t there. In the end, he was only 0.5 seconds behind at the finish, lighting a fire to come back at Unadilla for the win.
“You’re always conscious of the points, but now after winning this year, I crave to win and kind of expect it of myself,” said Cianciarulo. “Most of the time I’ve been happy with second because it’s been on an off day, but today I felt like I was the fastest out there and really wanted it. I just couldn’t get by and had a few mistakes here and there in that first moto that cost me. Overall, I had a lot of fun, the bike is working great and I feel like we’re in a really good spot heading to Unadilla.”
It was a tough day for Marchbanks at Washougal after starting out on a positive note with 10th in qualifying. In Moto 1, he was forced to retire early after going down on the opening lap and breaking his throttle cable. He had the last gate pick for Moto 2 and came around the first lap in 26th. Marchbanks pushed the entire race to make it into the points in 19th. His 40-19 resulted in finishing the day 22nd overall.
“This was definitely not the way I wanted to back up my comeback last weekend, but there are sometimes things that are out of your control and just happen,” said Marchbanks. “It was rough getting that last gate pick and had my work cut out for me in the second moto. I’ve been feeling good on the bike since returning, so I’m looking forward to getting another shot at it at Unadilla.”
