Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Back On Top In The West With Cianciarulos Fifth Win of the Season
DENVER (April 14, 2019) – Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo earned his fifth win of the season after leading the final 15 laps at the penultimate round inside Broncos Stadium at Mile High. The win extended his points lead to eight points going into the final Western Regional 250SX round in a few weeks. Teammate Garrett Marchbanks was forced to race in the Last Chance Qualifier, which he won, but retired from the main event on the opening lap after going down.
The day started out with the riders qualifying in the snow, but that didn’t seem to affect Cianciarulo who rode to the top spot. The snow had stopped by the time the night show got underway and Cianciarulo rode to his fourth heat race win of the season.
During the main event, Cianciarulo didn’t get the start he wanted but was able to fall into second pretty quickly. With very few places on the track to pass, Cianciarulo had to be smart about when and where he was going to make his move, which happened on Lap 7. With the top competitors also coming through the pack, Cianciarulo took advantage of a clear track to put a gap on the field, coming across the finish line 5.7 seconds ahead of second.
“At altitude, we have to start in first and get up to second pretty quick so the start was tougher than normal for a taller guy like me,” said Cianciarulo. “It was hard to find a clean place to pass and I didn’t want to do anything stupid. I feel like I’m always at my best when my back is against the wall. We have one more to go and I’ve had a good record in Vegas. After two weeks thinking about those races, it’s a great feeling to get this one off my chest.”
Marchbanks was looking great coming into the evening and was excited to tackle some conditions he’s familiar with like the cold and high elevation. Things didn’t end up going his way as he had to line up for the LCQ, but easily took the win and headed to the main event. Marchbanks seem to rocket down the start straight from the outside and nearly got the holeshot, but it wasn’t meant to be and went down a few turns later. The get off took him out of the race and was tallied with 22nd place.
“It was such an up-and-down day,” said Marchbanks. “I felt great in practice and then had to go to the LCQ. Then I won the LCQ and almost got the holeshot from the outside. And then I got sideways and went down pretty hard. I think the biggest bummer is that I was finally starting to feel good and confident there in the LCQ and it came out when the gate dropped. We have one more shot in Vegas to put it back in the top 10, but hopefully better than that.”
