Reed bounces back to take dominant Super X victory at Geelong
Reed bounces back to take dominant Super X victory at Geelong

Reigning Open class champion Chad Reed has moved into the lead of the Monster Energy Super X championship after coming out on top in tonight’s Quad Challenge format at Skilled Stadium in Geelong.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki pilot was determined to make back ground after an uncharacteristic stumble in the opening round last weekend.

Again the pacesetter in practice and qualifying, Reed took a convincing holeshot in heat two and went on to win the 10-lap showdown despite stalling during the moto.

He progressed through the initial Man on Man 1-lap motos despite strong challenges from Tye Simmonds and Craig Anderson.

Matched up against round 1 winner Jay Marmont in the final, Reed made the most of a lightning start and was never headed.

Reed’s blistering pace over a short distance was evident as he took three from four wins in the Quad Challenge, a series of 5-lap motos.

His only obstacle came in the second moto when he became bogged down in the pack after a heavy crash on track ahead of him.

He moved to ninth by the second lap and set about charging through the field to eventually finish in second place.

Reed’s experience and race fitness saw him make the most ground through the track’s whoops section.

A maximum haul of 25 points from round two elevates the KX450F-mounted rider to first place on 45 points outright.

"It was good to stand on top of the podium after a tough weekend in Tasmania," said Reed. "The format kept things close and it was hard to make much ground up over 5 laps if you got a bad start.

"I''m feeling comfortable on the Kawasaki, we were able to make some slight adjustments and it definitely suited my style more when we went out for practice and qualifying today.

"I''m aiming to keep this run going and put some more points between myself and second place in Perth next weekend."

Round three of the Super X series will be held at Perth''s Burswood Dome next Saturday.
