Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Ready to Take on the Sand of Southwick
Corona, Calif. (June 27, 2018) – Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy and Austin Forkner head to The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts to tackle the unique sand track as the Pro Motocross season hits its halfway mark. Saturday is shaping up to be a hot one with temperatures in the 90s, but with both Savatgy and Forkner training in heat and humidity, each will be up to the challenge to go after their best finishes of the season. Garrett Marchbanks will make a last minute decision about racing at Southwick depending on how he feels by the end of the week.
While Savatgy’s efforts and solid riding haven’t always translated to the results page as much as he would like, that is something he would love to change this weekend. What the results don’t show is how he’s led motos and moved through the pack and with a good start, he could make it his weekend in Southwick.
“I am more than ready to make it to the podium this weekend,” said Savatgy. “I know I have the speed and with a track like Southwick, it can level the playing field a bit. A good start would help so hopefully we’ll be able to pull that off and get the team back on the box.”
Coming off his fourth top-10 finish of the season, Forkner is ready to return to the podium. As a previous podium finisher at Southwick, it’s safe to say that Forkner knows how to ride the sandy conditions and be successful. Like Savatgy, getting a good start will help Forkner make quick work on the field and go after his first moto win of the season.
“I would love for Southwick to be a turning point for us and that we can start a streak of more good finishes,” said Forkner. “Southwick has been known for being unpredictable. I’ve had both a great race and a bad one there too. I’m hoping that it will be a great one in 2018.”
The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders will be signing autographs at the Monster Energy Kawasaki factory rig between practice and the motos on Saturday morning.
Saturday’s race from The Wick 338 will be broadcast on MAVTV and NBC Sports starting at 1 p.m. ET.
